About Dr. Deborah Hudson
Deborah Hudson is a licensed clinical social worker who has a private practice in Rochester, New York. Deborah received her master's degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and earned her PhD from the Margaret Warner School of Education / University of Rochester. Deborah has been intensively trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and has received individual training and supervision in Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP). She has been in private practice since 2001, and has also worked with adolescents and adults at several local mental health organizations beginning in 1994. Deborah's mission is to provide the highest quality mental health services in order to facilitate optimum well-being and quality of life for her clients. She continuously strives to balance an egalitarian and strength-based approach with the use of state-of-the-art clinical technologies, to bring about the positive change her clients seek as efficiently as possible.
While Deborah has the skill and competence to treat a wide variety of client problems, she is especially passionate about the following:
- Facilitating the relational and sexual health of individuals and couples
- Assisting youth, parents, and families to navigate the challenges of adolescence and young adulthood
- Using the strategies of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) to facilitate healthy development and functioning, for both individuals and families
- Incorporating the spiritual values of her clients into the counseling process to the extent that the client wishes to do so
Deborah is committed to ongoing learning and skill development in order to best meet the needs of her clients and supervisees. Her research specialty is in using integrative approaches to psychotherapy in the treatment of personality disorders. She has provided consultation to organizations on the implementation of dialectical behavior therapy, and is the first author of a textbook chapter on the treatment of sexual disorders.
